 The symptoms of digestive trouble should not be ignored in the early stages when they are easy to correct, because they can frequently lead to much more serious problems. Digestive problems can cause back pain. When the nerve endings in the gut become inflammed, a reflex pattern along the spine can become involved which creates the sensation there is pain in the back. A thourough exam will find in many cases that the pain in the back has its origin in the gut.
Many of the ads in magazines, newspapers, and on television seem to indicate that it is normal to have burning and gas after overindulgence or eating the wrong foods. They advise us to take antacids to "neutralize the excess acid." This approached must be critically evaluated. If eating a particular food bothers you but not very many other people, chances are your digestive system may be functioning poorly, it may not be the food. When digestion is poor - whether in the stomach, small intestine, or large intestine, the body fails to break food down into its component parts for absorption. Food can actually become putrid when this occurs and gases of varying nature can form. More importantly, digestive trouble prevents the body from absorbing the nutrients for the process of life.

Stomach Burning or "Heartburn"
Hydrochloric stomach acid production is regulated by the nervous system. Too much or too little acid indicates that the mechanism controlling acid production is out of balance; it should be returned to normal. AK treatment tools can by used by Dr. Doreo to correct this controlling mechanism.
Hiatal Hernia
Sometimes the burning sensation that develops in the upper portion of the digestive system is the result of a hiatal hernia. This is a condition where the diaphragm (a muscle) does not function properly and the opening the esophagus passes through to the stomach becomes enlarged, allowing the stomach to protrude into the chest cavity. Stomach acid is then allowed to pass into the esophagus causing severe burning pain (and other symptoms).
AK treatment can improve muscle function. The diaphragm muscle can usually be returned to normal by correcting the energy patterns.
Small Intestine and Bloating/Gas
The many complex chemical actions occur in the small intestine. Complications can develop rapidly. Protein is processed and passed to the bloodstream for use in the making of new tissues and other protein related items. Digestive enzymes - many made in the pancreas - are one group of protein containing compounds. The extraction of the body's nutrients occurs in the small intestine. Dysfunction in this area can create bloating, a rumbling feeling, and a variety of gases. Symptoms that indicate small intestine trouble and the possible lack of nutrition to the body.
AK testing can help identify enzyme activity and whether a person needs support to the enzyme production centers in the body.
Ileocecal Valve Syndrome
The ileocecal valve is the valve between the small and large intestine that controls the passage of "the trash out of the kitchen" into the large intestine for disposal. This valve can dysfunction in 2 ways: first and most commonly, the valve stuck open, and second, the valve is stuck closed. With the valve stuck open, the small intestine becomes toxic and any weak area (a hip joint or sinuses, in example) can develop trouble symptoms. With the valve stuck closed, the valve becomes spastic and again toxic material is absorbed into the body.
AK can help identify this valve dysfunction so that it can be re-set, restoring function to the small and large intestine coordination.
Constipation
Many people think of constipation as meaning the bowels are not moving frequently enough. However, a different type of constipation is just as significant and often ignored - colon stasis. This condition is waste material eventually absorbing re-absorbing into the body and is the first phase of serious problems such as colitis, diverticulosis, and diverticulitis. Symptoms of colon trouble include a tendency toward constipation or colon stasis, infrequent stool, non-voluminous stool, or odor in the stool. The normal bowel movement has no foul odor; dysfunction should be expected whenever a strong odor is commonly present.
